The Economic Impact of Franchised Business Report, conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers, found that franchised business generate a significant amount of economic activity in the U.S. Franchised businesses operated nearly 1 million establishments, provided 8% of private sector employment, and accounted for more than $2.3 trillion in annual economic activity.Franchising also outpaced the economy as a whole in terms of job growth rate payroll and output between 2001-2005. According to Matthew Shay, President of the International Franchise Association, franchising now provides more jobs than many other sectors of the economy, including durable goods manufacturing and financial activities sectors.
